Brockton, older and wiser about all that matters: Do you mean to ask what is the occasion of people murdering, or what is in the heart of murderers?
James: The latter, because the first question is easily answered on the face of it. Everyone who kills has an immediate reason to kill, even if it is wrong.
Brockton: The issue of occasion to murder speaks of reason; the issue of the heart speaks of no rationale at all—rather more of the human condition than of reason, I should say. But this will be easier to see by means of this story.
