Question: Does God exist?

Obviously volumes have been written on any one of the propositions I've listed below. I am simply going to give you an overview of my position.

1. I believe God exists because there is no other sensible answer to the issue of everything else existing. In other words, either everything came from nothing (That means from nothing at all, period), or it came from a Being.

2. I believe God exists because there is no other explanation of morality in people. Why is it that universally people believe that it is wrong to murder, wrong to steal, wrong to have sex with somebody else's wife, etc. These built in morals are an indication of the Creator. I'm not saying that we do all the right things, but that we have this inner knowledge. And this is found everywhere there are humans. We are made in his image, though fallen through sin, and therefore in need of a Savior.

3. I believe God exists because there is no other clear explanation of the personality of man. For instance, there is no explanation of love between two individuals apart from God. Where does love and hate, sadness and joy, purpose and resolve come from if not from a Being who has the same qualities. We are made in his image.

4. I believe God exists because there is no other adequate explanation for mind. If we are merely a series of mutations and accidents, then how could we all have the ability to think, reason, and create? We have more than a brain, we have a mind.

5. I believe God exists because of the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. He came as God in the flesh. His uniqueness, attested to both in the historical accounts of the Bible and extra-biblical testimony, is convincing beyond any reasonable doubt. His resurrection was seen by credible witnesses, some of whom went on to die for that fact. They paid the ultimate price because they believed what they saw and heard. No one was ever like Him, nor has anyone effected such a change in the world as He has. He said, "When you have seen Me you have seen the Father."

6. I believe God exists because of the uniform explanation of the Bible, written over a period of roughly 3000 years, in many differing circumstances, through many authors about such a controversial subject. Yet, all these accounts agree on the nature of God and Christ, and all other issues of truth. The Bible also contains a witness to us because of its uniqueness and power in the lives of people. It is to be believed as well because it is quoted by Jesus as true. And it is to be believed because it contains hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled, often with hundreds of years gap in time between the prophecy and its specific fulfillment. This book uniformly confesses to the existence of God. There are no other words like these.

7. I believe God exists because of my own experience with Him. He has changed my life in a way that is consistent with the changes occuring in millions of people over history. All that God said in the Bible about this change and the Christian life are true in my experience. And, I experience the inner communion with God that adds to my assurance. My experience perfectly conforms to the description, doctrine, and experience of others that the Bible lays out. I have encountered God and cannot deny it, even with a gun to my head.
