Question: There are so many hypocrites. How can Christianity
be true?
Hypocrisy in professing believers is a known fact. Perhaps we are
experiencing some of the worst cases right now in our history. Yet,
three points must be considered:
1. Hypocrisy does not invalidate truth. In other words, there are
hypocrites who watch TV, but this does not mean that there is no such
thing as a TV.
2. There are true believers even though there are hypocrites. Even if
whole churches are full of hypocrites, this does not mean that there is
no such thing as a true believer. If you look for them, you will find
them. Since more people are being martyred for the cause of Christ today
than in any other period in history, it cannot be said that there is no
such thing as a true and a sincere Christian.
3. Every believer sins, and in some way is a hypocrit while he sins. He
does not come to Christ saying that he is perfect, but that, as a sinful
person, he must have salvation. After coming to Christ, the Christian will change,
and will show some real fruit, yet, you will
certainly find sin in believers until they go to heaven. They will be
the first to tell you.
4. The Bible has told us ahead of time that there will be false
prophets and false Christianity. So, we should not be surprised.
5. If Christianity is true, though every last person in the professing
church is hypocritical, we still must place our trust in Christ as our
Savior.
I hope this stimulates your thinking and helps you consider Christ. I
would love to send you a book I've written on our relationship with
Christ. Just send your address by reply, and I'll send it to you without
charge.
Please ask further questions if I've not been clear enough.
